Combat Hapkido Self Defense Marshall, North Carolina
c Frequently Asked Questions c

Is KidKido™ a real martial arts?

KidKido™ teaches kids Chon-Tu Kwan Hapkido on a junior level. This is an official Korean martial arts. KidKido™ is the name of our kid's program.

Doesn't this just teach children to fight with others?

No. In fact, KidKido™ teaches self control and self discipline. Parents routinely tell us that their children are more confident and comfortable with themselves.

My child is already aggressive. Won't this just make it worse?

No. Studies have shown that aggression in children is caused by fear and frustration. Our KidKido™ program teaches kids confidence and self control, helping them to make good choices and respect the skills they are learning.

Will my child get hurt doing this?

We hope not! We put your child's safety first. There may be the occasional bump or bruise, but this is a good thing. Kids feel like they are a part of the family when they get "battle wounds". Aside from sore muscles once in a while, your child will never be put in a situation where he or she could get hurt.

My child took Tae Kwon Do. Why do we need to do this too?

Tae Kwon Do is a sport. High ranking, long time practitioners are also able to use it for self defense. But it is primarily geared toward the competition ring. It's great exercise, but it's not what we would consider self defense.

Our answer to is to come in and let us show you the difference. Or better yet, grab your child's wrist and pull them along and ask them what they would do. In our experience, they will undoubtedly improvise something that is ineffective and try to use their strength to pull away, since they were never taught this most common scenario in Tae Kwon Do. However, this is the very first move we teach to new students and is the foundation that Hapkido is based on. Our system starts with defensive techniques from day one. Everything we teach can be used against a potential attacker.

How could my 5 year old realistically defend himself against a grown man?

The truth is, they can't. A grown man will overpower a child every time if he is determined to do so. With that being said, child predators look for "victims" that fit a certain profile. They are looking for easy prey that they think will go willingly. A predator will not generally continue a confrontation with a child that screams or fights.

We also would stress here that we teach self defense to kids. Not offense. Our goal with children is to teach them how to think, stay calm, and use their training to get that split second they need to get away from an attacker. Not fight an attacker.

Do kids earn belts?

Yes, they do! It is the standard reward and ranking system in martial arts to obtain a darker color belt starting with white and gradually going to black. Children under the age of 12 earn Junior Belts. Since we only teach a portion of the curriculum to younger children, once they turn 12, they will test for their Gup, or regular belt ranking.

What does it mean to have a black belt in KidKido™?

KidKido™ is actually just our brand name of our Chon-Tu Kwan Hapkido for kids. So what they will actually have is a Junior Black Belt in Chon-Tu Kwan Hapkido. Again, once they turn 12, they can work on the advanced material to qualify for their standard black belt.

How much does it cost?

Because of the competitive nature of our business, we do not publish our various pricing packages. But at a recent seminar for black belts, Master Tony asked the audience if they would be willing to sell back their black belt for $100,000. For $100,000 they erase martial arts from their life. It would be as though they never joined a school. Of course, this was an imaginary offer designed to prove a point, but not one person said, Yes.

Our pricing is consistent with what you will find at many of the top schools in our area. We are not the cheapest and we aren't the most expensive. However, we do believe we are the best deal in town. When you compare what you will learn and how quickly you will learn it, the immediate confidence that comes with that is invaluable. There are many bargain basement schools out there that profess to teach you self defense. Most of these are run by students themselves with very limited experience and knowledge. Because they know more than you, they are able to get you in the door. But choosing a martial arts school is very much a you get what you pay for kind of decision.

At Full Circle Martial Arts, you have the backing of Master Tony Rogers who has nearly 30 years of training in various martial arts, was undefeated as a professional fighter, and holds black belts in 4 different disciplines. His own children are students and his family values, humility, and dedication to his students is unparalleled.

Are we required to sign a long term contract?

No. We have a variety of packages to fit your budget and specific needs.

Can we try it for a month to see if we like it?

Yes, you sure can. But we know you'll be hooked from the first class!

Can I take the class with my child?

Yes. Adult students are welcome to attend the KidKido™ classes with their children.

When do they move into the adult classes?

Children over the age of 12 are permitted to attend the adult class. Under age 12 is by Instructor invitation only.

Do you offer classes at other times of the day?

Not at this time. But ultimately, our students will dictate when our classes are held. We will be adding more class dates in the future, so if you have a specific preference, please feel free to let us know.

Can I just drop my child off for class or do I have to stay the entire time?

Yes, you may drop them off and pick them up after class. However, kids always love to impress mom or dad, so we love to have you stay and watch when you can.
